Total of 1.878 billion tons of steel had beenbe produced globally in 2020, an increase of 9 million tons year-on-year, according to the World Iron and Steel Association (WISA) released on June 4. Among them, China continues to lead the world, producing 1.0648 billion tons of steel in 2020, accounting for 56.7% of the world's total output. India and Japan ranked second and third with 100.3 million tons and 0.83.2 million tons respectively.
At the same time, the WISA announced the production ranking of major steel companies in 2020, and the ranking of global steel enterprises has changed greatly.
ArcelorMittal, the former hegemon, has been overtaken by China's Baowu and has fallen into second place after its production fell sharply due to the impact of the epidemic. In fact, even without being affected by the epidemic, China Baowu could still surpass ArcelorMittal to become the world's largest steel group through continuous merger and reorganization.
HBSl Group rose one place and Shagang Group rose two places, surpassing Japan Iron & Steel, respectively, to rank third and fourth in the world with output of 43.76 million tons and 41.59 million tons.
On 9 March 2020, the completion of the acquisition of British Steel by Engage Group resulted in the acquisition of British Steel Scunthorpe Steel Works, Teesside Steel Beam Rolling Mill and Skinning Grove Steel Works, as well as British Steel's FN Steel Works and TSP Engineering. Dedicated Group also rose 11 places in the global rankings to number 20th in 2020.
Also through acquisitions, Delong Group and Hebei Xinhualian Metallurgical Holding Group broke into the top 50 of the World Steel Association rankings for the first time.
